Well with the recent update to wordpress 2.6 it was made far far easier by this fantastic plugin again, simple click backup upgrade solution. If only all the wp-plugins were this good !

This is a must for any wordpress users out there, basically this very neat plugin automagically updates a google compliant sitemap.xml everytime you make a new post.
