So, is the o2 PAYG iPhone going to be value for money ?

Lets break it down to look at the cost of owning an iPhone 3G on o2 payg.

Firstly, we need to get the payg and contract iphones on a level playing field, which means adjusting for the difference in contract periods.

Cost of iPhone 3G 8GB – £349
Monthly topup - £15
*Data charges (6 mths) - £10

The PAYG sim required for use on the iPhone has free data and wifi usage for 12 months, reverting to £10 a month after that. I have put the data charges in for 6 months to compare the cost of the iphone for 18 months, as that is the length of the contract iPhone.

So for 18 months -

Iphone 3G Cost 349
18 x £15 topups 270
6 x £10 data charges 60

Cost of ownership 679

Cost per month 37.72

The cost of the handset has priced itself out of the market, as the contract version includes more inclusive minutes, and most importantly, free text messages and free calls to any network.

So, judging by the fact most people wont have £349 lying around spare to buy the iphone 3g payg, bag yourself a free iphone 3g and dramatically reduce the cost of ownership !

Still fancy a contract iphone ?

Then sign up here for a free iphone 3g voucher and save yourself the cash, go direct to the apple store and give them your voucher !

from Vanessa
to The Free Gadget Zone

date Mon, Sep 1, 2008 at 11:32 AM
subject i got my free tomtom !

I thought i’d drop you an email to let you know i have received my free tomtom one europe !

I came across your site and signed up for a free tomtom one.

I must admit, i was sceptical at first, but after reading through the forums you recommended i decided to give it a go. I was after a tomtom one but never seemed to have enough money at the end of the month.

I completed the Coral offer after depositing £5 and placing a bet, after this, they give you another free £5 bet as a bonus for signing up. I picked two horses from a race and placed a £2.50 e/w bet on each horse. They placed first and second, and i had £27 odd in my account ! So, i quickly withdrew that back to my card !

I emailed round my friends and colleagues with my referral link with a quick note explaining what it was about.

After about a week and a half, i had enough people signed up, the coral offer credits really fast, but the lovefilm offer did take a couple of weeks to credit. Anyway, after the lovefilm offers had credited, i hit the verify button on my account. This was on the friday, by sunday evening my account had been verified and i hit the order button.

On tuesday morning, a delivery arrived including my free tomtom ! I had a double surprise when i opened the box, as it included a free tomtom travel pack worth £19.99, as well as including a free trip on the eurotunnel !

So, thanks again for your help with this, enclosed are a couple of pictures as promised.

I’ve already decided to reset my account and go for a Free PS3 !
